Profile

Walking in Ryton Woods with my daughter Elodie

Before qualifying with Distinction in Residential Landscape Design (Post-Graduate Diploma) at the Oxford College of Garden Design, I dedicated over a decade to video game production, developing some amazing titles with some incredibly talented people.

My experience as a Producer & Project Manager ingrained the paramount importance of good design, precise planning, and the simple art of listening to people. I bring these skills, along with genuine passion to the art of making spectacular spaces.

Joel was trained by acclaimed designer Duncan Heather, a 5-time Gold Medal & 3-time Best of Show winner.

Duncan’s pedigree speaks for itself. Trained by top international designer and author, John Brookes, Duncan turned down a directorship to open his own award-winning design practice in Henley-on-Thames. He founded and runs the world-renowned Oxford College of Garden Design. He also sat on the Society of Garden Designers council, co-authored the Garden Design Specification and is a regular lecturer for the SGD.

From a young age, I was drawn to nature. My fascination for frogs meant soggy sleeves were a staple of my childhood. Countless afternoons cloaked in the green comfort of nature. Duckweed, mostly.

In this strange era of hand sanitiser and self-isolation, with a young daughter to raise, no place feels more like home – more sacred – than a garden. Preferably with a pond.
