Cherington, Shipston-on-Stour

Brief

Bring form, functionality and an abundance of life to this Cotswold manor house with a palette of bold naturalistic planting, topiary and luxury limestone.

Before
This magnificent stone manor house has some quirks. Here we have a rather misleading trompe l’oeille front entrance, strongly guarded by Box hedging – wreaking confusion for guests.
The real front entrance looking resplendent from the old gates, but in need of better signposting from the main driveway.
Araucaria araucana, puzzling monkeys and designers alike.
Futher compicating matters is the family entrance, tucked to the side of the house and rather cobbled together with a patchwork of York flags and Tarmac. Needs some thought.
Visual concepts
a high angle of the proposed layout for the main road and pedestrian entrance
Proposed front elevation showing family parking bays and bold planting
Three generous parking bays for the family fleet allowing convenient access to both entrances
Guests like to know where they’re going, but need to feel they have arrived. This axis must look superb year-round.
A rich tapestry of naturalistic planting embroiders the front facade of the house, which is undergoing extension work – here we see the orangery is being replaced with a two-storey bayfront in keeping with the property.
Planting wraps around the house and leads to the new extension and secluded dining terrace
Beautiful perennial plants anchor the luxurious limestone dining terrace to the surroundings
